40th Reunion:
I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wood Science and Technology from the University of Washington in 1968. In September of 1968 I entered the U. S. Navy as an Aviation Reserve Officer Candidate and received basic training and initial flight training at Pensacola, Florida. My wife Patricia and I were married February 1969 in Pensacola. While stationed in Pensacola we had our first child, Brian. We moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where I received advanced training in multi-engine aircraft and was designated a U. S. Naval Aviator.
Our first two year tour of duty took us to Agana, Guam where I was assigned as a station pilot for the Agana Naval Air Station. We had a great time. The weather was always warm, but a bit humid (quite a bit). My flying job took me all over the Western Pacific. My travels were to islands such as Hawaii, Midway, Bikini Atoll, Saipan, Tinian, Rota, Yap, Palau, Truk, Ponape, and Kwajalein Atoll. I also traveled to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China Thailand and the Philippines.
Our second duty tour took us to Moffett Field, California where I was assigned to an Anti-Submarine Warfare Squadron. We bought our first house in San Jose, California. We liked the San Jose area very much and had many friends. During this assignment I was deployed on two different occasions. My first deployment was to Adak, Alaska and my second to Iwakuni, Japan. More travel throughout the Orient was on my plate. This time I made additional visits to Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, Korea, Iran and an Island in the Indian Ocean called Diego Garcia.
Our third duty station was recruiting in the Seattle area. The duty was O.K. but not what I thought it would be. We bought our current house in Juanita (a suburb of Seattle). Patricia has the house decorated in a Victorian manner. Our second child was born in 1977. I resigned from the Navy in 1979.
I went to work for the Boeing Company and after 23 years Im still there. I plan to retire soon. Patricia and I plan to do a lot of traveling. Speaking of traveling, back in 1991 Patricia and I traveled to Europe for 32 days. We really enjoyed the experience. We spent time in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Vienna and Freiburg, Germany. We also love to visit Maui, Hawaii, and go there as often as we can.
By the way I still have my graduation present, the 1954 Corvette that I bought back in May of 1963. |
