Update 2008:
Since I retired in 2003 Bill and I have had great travel adventures in Australia, Mexico, Europe, Hawaii, and in our wonderful continental USA. With bikes in the SUV, we spent two months in 2004 visiting famous sights and little byways of America. Biking highlights included the Mississippi levee near New Orleans months before Katrina, Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields, and canal towpaths in Ohio. We biked in Austria in 2007 and will be off to Puglia, Italy for a bike tour in October.
Genealogy has become a passion and I completed a year long certificated course at the UW. I continue studies and belong to several genealogy groups. Standing on farms in Norway that my ancestors left in the mid 1850s was extraordinary, as has been following the footprints of the ancestors who homesteaded in the Midwest and those who came to America over 400 years ago. Genealogy is the ultimate treasure hunt and a never-ending puzzle.
Bill and I split time between home in Bellevue and Lost Lake, near Shelton. There is gardening, swimming, rowing and kayaking, and lots of reading and enjoying friends and family. I am training for the Danskin Triathlon in mid August and working on a little Swahili for a trip to a Maasai girls’ secondary school in Tanzania in 2009.
What fun it will be to see so many of the Class of 1963 at the reunion! We’ll miss all who can’t join us and will expect you for the 50th in 2013.
July 2003:
After 16 years in K-4 education and 10 years part-time at Bellevue Community College I finished my classroom teaching career in June. I served on advisory boards for educational programs at the University of Washington and at B. C. C. and will continue in some advisory and training capacities.
My spouse of 36 years, Bill, retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1999 and is an avid bicycle rider and a rower. I am relishing my freedom and the time I now have for swimming, rowing, biking (not as seriously as Bill!), reading, taming my perennial garden, tending house, making music, and the opportunities for serious traveling again.
We divide time between home in Bellevue and Lost Lake and I intend to swim in the lake every day in the month of September...a teachers daydream on hot September days!
We revel in our blessings of family and friends, in our good health, and in the opportunity to appreciate lifes ordinary, profound moments. |
