I have lived in Redondo Beach (LA) California since 2010 and love it here. Still teaching survival to pilots, flight attendants, CERT volunteers, first responders and disaster professionals. And trying to bicycle between 3000 and 4000 miles a year. Great place to cycle. Can't believe we have been out of Irene S Reed since 1963. WTF?
July 2003:
After graduating, I worked for Simpson for a couple of years until the inevitable happened-the draft. To avoid the Army, I enlisted in the US Air Force and spent 4 years as an Air Force Survival Instructor spending time in Reno, Spokane, Alabama, Philippines, Japan and Vietnam. I loved the work, but a military career wasn't my bag. Instead, I got out and went to college, got married and eventually finished my degree from Eastern Washington State College, followed by Masters work at the University of Minnesota.
I was married for 20 years, divorced and have a great son, David Thomas, (31 years old in July) who works as a bar tender in two different Seattle restaurants.
After the Air Force I started a survival and wilderness education business and had offices in Seattle and Minneapolis. I loved the work, especially teaching adults, but worked long hours just to survive. From 1977 to 1980, I worked in the training department for Medtronic, a medical devices company in Minneapolis. The corporate life was much more secure, but not as much fun as working for yourself.
So, in 1980 I started Tim Kneeland & Associates, Inc. (TK&A) a Special Events Management Company focusing on the creation and production of bicycle tours lasting from 1 day to 1 year in length. The largest event we ever produced was Odyssey 2000, an around-the-world bicycling adventure covering 18,500 miles in 45 countries on 6 continents from January 1 to December 31, 2000. We were even invited to start and finish the ride in the Rose Parade in Pasadena. It was an incredible experience and I feel fortunate I have been able (and continue) to travel so extensively.
We currently have a smaller group taking part in our second world tour, Odyssey World Cycling Tours. We also offer week long cycling events in about half the states, including a great ride around the Big Island of Hawaii.
I moved my company to Burbank in late 2001 to take advantage of the excellent weather and have not been disappointed.
Once again, thanks for this album. It is definitely a pleasant trip down memory lane!
Tim's Latest Interactions
Bill and I were friends when I grew up and lived in Shelton. Over the past few years we exchanged a few emails to stay in touch. Since I haven't made any reunions for many years, we hadn't connected in person for a few decades. However, I know he was a really, really good guy and made everyone's life he touched a little better. We have lost one of the good guys. RIP BIll. Tim Kneeland
Happy birthday, Ron. Time is fling by, huh?
